I’m so excited to announce my newest venture. We don’t talk about it much. But Jim Kennedy Photographers has been photographing families as long as we’ve been shooting weddings. Now I’ve become part of a company that is taking family photography to a whole new level. It’s not often that I pester EVERYONE I KNOW for help, but this year I’ve partnered up with a new company Family Tree Photographers.

Family Tree Photographers (http://www.neversaycheese.com) has been given a tremendous opportunity; one of those rare once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, by Costco Wholesalers.

I personally love being a part of this new business.  Family Tree Photographers decided to redesign a family photography business that doesn’t only fulfill a need, but also wants.  For example, I know after years of shooting family photos what families want these days!  They want their photos outdoors at their favorite parks or beaches, by an independent, talented photographer… and they want the high resolution photo CD.  So wouldn’t it make sense that if you could provide both in one photography package that people would love it?

Turns out Costco agrees with us, as they have been thinking a lot about how to offer family photography without lowering themselves to the likes of K-Mart Portrait studios!  And after about 9 months of going back and forth with their corporate headquarters in Seattle, they have finally given Family Tree 4 stores – two in Denver, CO and two in Orange County, CA to see if we can prove to them that our unique model works indeed.  Between the 4 stores, we have just 40 days (10 days per store) to show them what we can do on a national scale.  THIS is where we can use your help!

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT FAMILY TREE

I have kept this business under the radar for 2 years now, trying not to talk it up too much, but it’s a brilliant new concept in family photography.  We have positioned our business as “Photography for Today’s Family”.  So I am proud to finally stop keeping secrets and tell you all about it.

Our goal is to create a new household name in family photography!  When you think about indoor portrait photography, chances are, you think “Olan Mills”,K Mart or Wall Mart.  When you think about outdoor family photography, we hope that someday in the near future, no matter where in the USA you are, you will think “Family Tree”!

I truly believe that this concept will take off for many reasons:

Our photographer network is nation-wide, and already we have talented “up-and-coming” photographers working for us, from New York to Laguna Beach, CA and everywhere in between.

We specialize in outdoor photography.  This is great for kids!  Indoor portrait studios often scare kids and they won’t sit still in a dark studio.  Outside, we actually encourage kids to run and play.  Meanwhile our photographers are photographing them, being exactly who they are.  You just can’t do that in a studio.  In a studio you are forced to “say cheese”.

We are ready to put an end to holding photo CD’s hostage and trying to force customers into purchasing crazy fees for a print that you know you could get on your own at, say… COSTCO for a sliver of the cost!  And to take it to the next level, we give our clients full rights to the images, ready to print in COLOR, BLACK AND WHITE, AND SEPIA.  So 3 versions of each image.  Just bring your photo CD back to Costco and get great enlargements for a matter of dollars.

Our yellow couch Isn’t only used for “for his eyes only shoots” It works for families also. My photographer and great friend Amanda thought it would be cool to do her family shoot on it. It worked out great.

I never shoot families anymore. But in the last week I’ve been busy with families.

I know I don’t blog many family sessions. But my studio does do a lot of family sessions. Most are done by my photographer Melissa. I don’t shoot very many family sessions. From time to time I will shoot them. Here is a coupe shots from a recent shoot.

I shot Erin & Jeff’s wedding a few years ago. It was great to hangout with them and meet the kids.

It was great to see this family again. I did their family portraits a few years back. So it was great to hear from them again.
